House refurbishment SW London

I have been appointed by White Design to provide energy advice for the refurbishment of a 5 bedroomed 1970s house in SW London. The refurbishment involves a large two story extension, insulation of external walls and roof and upgrading of doors and windows.  The aim is to create a building which exceeds the requirements of the 2010 Building Regulations.  The commission includes specification of 3 kW PV, 6m2 evacuated tube solar thermal system, gas condensing boiler and controls and twin coil hot water cylinder, together with U value calculation and SAP 2009 modelling.

Passivhaus design

I have been appointed by a private client to provide support on Passivhaus design for a new house in Hertfordshire.  I am working with architects Eades Hotwani Partnership to develop a house of outstanding architectural and environmental merit.  I have been through the experience of starting with a design and trying to make it meet Passivhaus requirements through PHPP modelling.  This is clearly not the best approach and we have finally almost gone back to the drawing board.  The project continues

Contaminated land risk assessment review

I have been appointed to provide high level review and technical advice to an international engineering and environmental consultancy on a complex contaminated land risk assessment.  The site is a former colliery spoil heap with a number of tar lagoons on it.   I have reviewed the available information and risk assessments and assisted in developing a case to present to the EA to support proposed remediation targets.  I provided support to the conceptual model and quantitative risk assessment by drawing additional interpretation from the contaminant distributions and site hydrogeology and hydrochemistry.  EA negotiations continue.
